Dental Crowns
Dental crowns are custom-made caps that fit over damaged or weakened teeth, restoring their strength, shape, and appearance. At Wong Dentistry, Dr. Wong uses high-quality materials to create crowns that look and feel like natural teeth.
When Is a Crown Needed?
A dental crown may be recommended to:
- Protect a weakened tooth from breaking or to hold together parts of a cracked tooth
- Restore a broken tooth or a tooth that has been severely worn down
- Cover and support a tooth with a large filling when there isn’t much natural tooth remaining
- Hold a dental bridge in place
- Cover a dental implant
- Improve the appearance of a misshapen or severely discolored tooth
- Protect a tooth after root canal treatment
The Crown Process
Getting a dental crown typically involves two visits:
- First visit — Dr. Wong examines and prepares the tooth, takes impressions, and places a temporary crown
- Second visit — The temporary crown is removed and the permanent crown is cemented into place
Types of Crowns
Dr. Wong will recommend the best material based on the tooth’s location and your specific needs. Options include porcelain, ceramic, and porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns, each offering excellent durability and aesthetics.
Caring for Your Crown
With proper care, a dental crown can last many years. Maintain your crown by brushing twice daily, flossing regularly, and visiting Dr. Wong for routine check-ups.
